TAXILA: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Saturday that the protests should end so that the country could progress, adding it was responsibility of all the institutions, including Army to deal with sit-ins.

Speaking with the media here, the former interior minister dubbed Sheikh Rashid the PTI chairman’s peon.

Nisar said that the government should not target judiciary and the Army.

He added that during his tenure as interior minister sit-ins and protests were successfully handled. The March 2016 protests were ended after resolving the issue peacefully within two days, he continued. Islamabad police had prevented entry of enraged demonstrators coming from Peshawar to the capital. The FC and police also stopped over 10,000 demonstrators when the sit-in led by Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri had entered the Red Zone on August 10, 2014. The difference was that the then interior minister was present on the spot alongside the forces.

I believe in politics based on non-violence, Nisar observed.

To a question whether the government would complete its tenure, Nisar said that it should be asked from the government.

Strongly criticising Sheikh Rashid, the former interior minister said that he was acting like a peon of Imran Khan.
