The 46th martyrdom anniversary of 1971 war hero Major Shabbir Sharif, the elder brother of former army chief Gen (retd) Raheel Sharif, is being observed today (Wednesday).
Major Shabbir Sharif was awarded Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan's highest military gallantry award, for his valor and bravery during the 1971 war.
He also received a Sitara-e-Jurrat in 1965 Sword of Honor from Kakul Academy.
He is the only person ever who received both the Nishan-e-Haider and Sitara-e-Jurat for his bravery.
He is regarded as the most decorated officer of Pakistan Army.
He was commissioned in Pakistan Army on 19 April and after successfully completing his training he was posted to the 6th Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.
