Pakistan receives Voice of Solidarity award for working to end VAW

SRU is a think tank that works on Women Protection-Police-Excise and Taxation-Traffic

Director-General Strategic Reform’s unit (SRU) Salman Sufi received the prestigious Voice of Solidarity award for Pakistan from Vital Voice for the work done to end violence against women under the leadership of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Pakistan has earned the prestigious ‘Voice of Solidarity Award 2017’ due to Government of Punjab’s SRU efforts to eliminate violence against women.

SRU is a think tank that works on Women Protection-Police-Excise and Taxation-Traffic.

Voices of Solidarity is an award that acknowledges remarkable men who show courage to help eliminate violence against women and girls.

Salman Sufi, DG SRU has been chosen as the Honoree for the award.

The award was presented by Vital Voices Global Partnership, under the chairmanship of Hillary Clinton on 5th December 2017.

Sufi’s name is now included among prominent personalities like former US Vice President Joe Biden, UN Secretary General Antonio Gueterris , renowned English actor Patrick Stewart and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid bin Ra’ad al-Hussein.

Sufi played a significant role in drafting and passing of the bill of Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016, that criminalized all forms of violence against women and constructed the first Violence Against Women Centre in Multan, Pakistan.

The centre provides female victims of violence with legal, social and political aid including police, prosecution, medico-legal and counseling services in one place.

Sufi also leads the Punjab Women Protection Authority which is responsible for constructing Violence Against Women Centres (VAWC) across Punjab. He is also an advocate of female mobility and launched the Women- On-Wheels project to encourage and train women behind the wheel.
