Meet world’s first-ever hijab-wearing professional skater
Zahra Lari is one such incredible woman who has become world’s first hijab-wearing professional figure skater to compete internationally.
Muslim women all over the world are creating wonders and nothing seems to stop them.
Zahra Lari is one such incredible woman who has become world’s first hijab-wearing professional figure skater to compete internationally.
Representing her country UAE, Zahra, 22, debuted as a professional skater back in 2012 when she was only 17.
Sponsored by Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Academy that encourages women to participate in sports through International Conference of Sports for Women, Zahra’s long-term dream is to become a figure skating trainer.
Modifying her see-through outfits with opaque ones and donning a matching headscarf with it, Zahra Lari’s first competition judges deducted marks for dressing up differently.
She soon pledged to change the rules of the Skating Union in a bid to get cultural diversity accepted across board.
Lari is currently working to change the international Skating Union rules to explicitly allow women to wear hijab on the ice.
