ISLAMABAD: As many as 14 lawmakers of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Monday handed over their resignations to Peer Hamiduddin Sialvi.
Speaking at Geo TV’s Capital Talk show PMLN MNA Sheikh Muhammad Akram confirmed the news and said the lawmakers would follow the orders of Peer Hamiduddin and would not hesitate in making an extreme decision over the issue of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.
Punjab’s Minister for Auqaf, who was also present in Hamid Mir’s show, said Peer Hamiduddin Sialvi is their elder and he would hold a meeting with him to address his reservations.
Another PMLN MNA from Faisalabad, Nisar Jutt, however, denied submitting his resignation and also rejected the impression that Rana Sanaullah, Punjab Law Minister, has been asked to resign.
The resignations come in the wake a sit-in that paralyzed the federal government for 20 days and ended after a botched crackdown and an agreement between the government and a religious party.
Law minister Zahid Hamid also had to resign on the demands of the protesters who came to Islamabad against a change in and electoral law related to Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.
The change, which was termed by the government as a clerical mistake, was rectified through an amendment before the sit-in at Faizabad was staged by the activists of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah.
