ISLAMABAD: After baring media from live coverage of government's crackdown against protesters of religious groups , the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended transmission of all the TV channels .
According to reports, most of the channels including Geo TV has gone off air in Islamabad and elsewhere .
Senior journalist and Capital TV talkshow's host Hamid Mir called the media watchdog's decision unfair.
Sohail Waraich said suspending TV transmission would give birth to rumors.
Geo TV's Director News Rana Jawad called on the government to withdraw the decision of shutting down the channels.
A policeman was martyred and 100 other people including policemen were shifted to different hospital after the authorities launched crackdown on the protesters at Faizabad Interchange.
The protesters were staging a sit-in for the last 19 days ignoring the government's appeals and court orders to end the protest.
