ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday removed objections raised by the Registrar’s Office on petitions filed by Sheikh Rashid, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples’ Party challenging Election Act 2017.
The CJP heard the appeals in his chamber and directed the office to fix the petitions for hearing.
The Registrar Office had earlier asked the parties to approach the proper forum first for the same relief. In another objection, it stated that the certificate was not in conformity with requirements specified in Rule 6 of Order XXV of the Supreme Court Rules, 1980.
The apex court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif in its Panama Paperes case verdict. Consequently, he was also barred from heading party under Clause 203 of the Political Parties Order 2002.
Later, the PML-N brought an amendment in the election act paving the way for Nawaz to become party president.
