India reluctant to send Jadhav’s wife alone to Pakistan

Responding to Pakistan’s offer made earlier, India is not ready to send Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife alone to Pakistan to meet the former Indian naval officer who faces a death sentence on the grounds of spying, according to sources.

Furthermore, India had requested that Kulbhushan’s mother be allowed to meet him too. However, it is still awaiting a reply from Pakistan in that regard.

“It is not a fair proposition to send his wife alone to meet him. We are awaiting a response from the Pakistan government on the plea for letting his mother meet him, which anyway was our first request,” cited a source.

Another source maintained that India had sought consular access to Jadhav whose case is now being dealt at the International Court of Justice (ICIJ), and is awaiting a response for this concern too.

In a tweet, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal said on November 18: “Indian reply to Pakistan’s humanitarian offer for Commander Jadhav received & is being considered.”

While Jadhav’s mercy plea was turned down by Pakistan’s military appellate court in the past, Army Chief is now currently looking after the clemency plea.
