CM Sindh concerned over low literacy rate in country

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed his concerns over the alarmingly low literacy rate in the country on Saturday.

Addressing a prize distribution ceremony in honour of students who secured positions in education board examinations, Shah said the low literacy rate is due to rising poverty that restricts as many as 4 million students in the province from attending school.

Position-holders were awarded Rs100,000 each by the chief minister along with an iPad. The ceremony was attended by the chief minister and officials of the provincial education board.

Speaking to Geo News the chief minister said, awarding prizes to position-holders will help improve the quality of education. He added, that if teachers are appointed on merit surely the results will also reflect the same.

Shah said he will continue to distribute prizes among outstanding students in order to further improve the quality of education.
