ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday withheld victory notifications of two Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Raheela Magsi for the Islamabad seats in the Senate elections.
According to the ECP, the notifications will not be issued till the Islamabad High Court (IHC) gives its final verdict on petitions filed against the two candidates.
On February 25, Secretary Information, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shireen Mazari filed a petition in IHC challenging the nomination papers of Jhagra and Magsi as candidates.
She contended that the two candidates were neither Islamabad’s citizens nor were they registered voters of Islamabad and hence they could not contest the Senate elections from Islamabad.
