ISLAMABAD: The government has asked the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of news report revealing a tale of whatsapp conversation that purportedly took place between a caller who identified himself as the Supreme Court registrar and top officials of the State Bank of Pakistan and Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in connection with formation of Joint investigation Team that would probe foreign business dealing of the ruling family.
According to the report, the caller told the officials of the the State Bank of Pakistan and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan to include specific names in the panel to be forwarded to the Supreme Court's special bench for the constitution of JIT on the Panama case.
"We hope the Supreme Court will take notice of Ansar Abbasi's report published in The News," said Marriyum Aurangzeb, State Minister for Information while addressing a press conference.
She said the government hopes that the top court would see what has been written in the report and would take strict action.
State Bank rejects report
The State Bank of Pakistan on Tuesday termed the report baseless.
A spokesman for the State Bank said that SC had itself picked the name of SBP official for JIT.
When contacted Supreme Court Registrar Arbab Arif for confirmation of the news, he only offered ‘no comment’, Geo News reported.
“Let me do my work,” said the registrar and went inside the office of the Chief Justice.
