PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party leader Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday claimed that his party would sweep the next general election.

Speaking at a press conference, the former president of the country said the PTI tsunami has destroyed the “old Pakistan” instead of building new one.

“I have met doctors, engineers and laywers. Nobody is happy in new Pakistan,” said he, adding that he would campaign for the next election along with his children and sister.

“Bilawal and I will run the compiagn in KP, Balochistan and Punjab,” he said. When asked as to how his party would win the election when it was not able to win more than three seats in the last polls, Zardari said there was no PPP election campaign in last election. “It never happened in the history except when Benazir Bhutto was in exile,” said Zardari.

He said the last election was the election of Returning Officers (ROs), but his party would not allow ROs election anymore.

Criticizing the central government, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has failed to overcome power crisis.

“What can I say about him when a Supreme Court judge has called him the Godfather,” he said, referreing to Supreme Court’s verdict in Panama Papers case. Zardari said National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was not a "fair" institution.

He warned the KP government against privatization of government organizations, saying the move  would affect the employees.

Zardari said the  people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rendered sacrifices for defending the country and its fight against terrorism, which he said was imposed on them by some naïve people.

Calling the war against terrorism battle of mind sets, he said he had told the United Nations in his General Assembly speech that “We are losing battle everywhere including Libya, Syria, Yemen and other places”.

He said Muslim were taking losses in the war in which they were killing each other.

He said the PPP launched operation in Swat, hoisting Pakistan’s flag in the valley, a promise which Benazir Bhutto has made to the nation.

“We rehabilitated people displaced due to Swat operation. We stand by people of FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said.
