BHAKKAR: A local court in Punjab’s Bhakkar district on Tuesday handed down death sentence to a pet dog after the animal bit and injured a child, some 65 kilometers from here.
The punishment was awarded by Assistant Commissioner in Kallur Kot area of the district, prompting owner of the animal to approach Additional Deputy Commissioner against the ruling.
Jameel said the decision was against the norms of justice since he had already spent a week in a prison after family of the injured child lodged a case against him.
Defending the verdict, Assistant Commissioner Raja Saleem said the punishment was given to the animal on “humanitarian grounds”, adding that Town Municipal Officer has also been ordered to verify the registration of the dog which injured the child.
