MARDAN: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a key accused, who opened fire on Mashal Khan at the Abdul Wali Khan University, in the Mardan lynching case.
Addressing a press conference here, DIG Alam Khan Shinwari said that according to the arrested accused Mashal Khan’s classmate Imran had opened fire at him. The key accused has been arrested today on secret information.
He said that the university administration had informed the police late. However, he added that the police had reached the crime scene after the murder of Mashal Khan within 13 minutes and saved lives of two students.
The prime accused Imran had confessed to his crime before a magistrate.
The DIG claimed that the police had prevented the body of Mashal from being set on fire by angry mob.
He said police had launched hunt for one of the Mashal’s friends.
