ISLAMABAD: Former president of Pakistan and PPPP leader Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said Hussain Haqqani did not even have the right in the US Embassy to issue visas to anybody.

In an interview with senior journalist Hamid Mir in the Geo News programme ‘Capital Talk’ aired on Wednesday night, the former president discussed the decision to appoint Hussain Haqqani as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US.

He told that Haqqani was made the ambassador when the president of the country was Pervez Musharraf.

On the matter of issuing visas, he said that he does not think Hussain had said that as he did not even have the right in American Embassy to issue visas to anyone.

“There are lot more people in American Embassy than just the ambassador who scramble through the important visas”, Zardari said.

He also said that he never met Haqqani nor would plan to meet him during hisvisit to Washington.

“Hussain Haqqani lives in another world altogether these days.  There is a lot of difference in the way we think now,” the PPP leader said.

“I don’t agree with what Haqqani has written about Pakistan in his book. Haqqani considers himself Washington’s philosopher and lobbyist, there are some people who make friends in US while making anti-Pakistani statements, said Zardari.

The former president said that he and his party had nothing to do with super model Ayaan Ali.

He also said that his opponents attacked his party when PPP leader Latif Khosa was fighting Ayaan Ali’s case.
