ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said ambassadors of Muslim countries in Islamabad have been invited for a discussion on the issue of blasphemous content on social media to come up with a unanimous stance on the matter.
Speaking at a press conference, the minister said strict action would be taken against the social media websites if they didn’t change their course.
“Social media is not more important than religion and faith,” the minister said hours after The Islamabad High Court (IHC) hinted at blocking the Facebook in Pakistan due to presence of blasphemous content on the social media platform.
He said invitation have been sent to the envoys of the Islamic countries for the discussion to be held on Friday.
“There will be no compromise on respect of Prophet (peace be upon him) . Strict action will be taken action social media. “Freedom of expression ends where other man’s nose begins,” he said .
Earlier in the day, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency told Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court during the hearing of a case pertaining to blasphemous material on the social media that the agency has completed the investigations and a case has been registered couple of days ago.
He said the FIA arrested a man allegedly involved in sharing blasphemous content and names of several others have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
