KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan Chief, Farooq Sattar has been released after brief detention late Friday night in Karachi.

Sources said that Sattar is released after high-level political intervention.

Sources said Farooq Sattar was released after written assurance by him to appear before Anti-Terrorism Court.

The police party led by DSP Kalakot Zahid Hussain and comprises two DSPs and four SHOs arrested MQM Pakistan leader, sources added.

Farooq Sattar, the police sources said, was interrogated by DSP Zahid Hussain.

Talking exclusively to Geo News after release, Sattar confirmed that he was taken into police custody for more than an hour. Such treatment with a leader of a political party was uncalled for, he added.

A Geo News report said that he was returning after attending a wedding ceremony at PAF Museum when his car was stopped and he was taken into custody. He was taken to Chakiwara police station.

Sources said Sattar was taken into custody in a case pertaining to August 22 anti-Pakistan speech by MQM founder.

This has also been reported that a heavy contingent of the Police has reached the temporary headquarter of the MQM (Pakistan) at PIB colony.

An emergency meeting was held at PIB Colony office to chalk out the future line of action.

Later, addressing a press conference at PIB colony residence/office, Farooq Sattar demanded that cases against his party workers related to ant-state speech by MQM founder on Aug 22 must be withdrawn and all the all innocent MQM workers should be released from jails.

Without naming the MQM founder Sattar said: “We have practically implemented minus one. If now our workers are not released from the politically motivated cases, our offices continues to remained sealed and if Pakistan`s fourth largest political party leader is treated such then people will get confused.”

“We have created an opportunity for the party but also for the LEAs; If the support is not given to those who stands with Pakistan Zindabad then the people will be forced to think that the agenda is beyond minus one,” he added.

Dr Farooq Satatr went on to say that their unprecedented 23rd August stance should accepted. We have rejected anti-Pakistan slogans.

“We had made it clear that the party would not be run from London anymore,” he said and added that despite such clear policy his name was included in the FIR besides other 100 leaders.

Meanwhile, MQM-P has announced that it would go ahead with its decision to celebrate the party's 'Youm-e-Tasees' (founding day) today Saturday (March 18).
