Shoe thrown at Sheikh Rashid as he arrives in Lahore to witness PSL final
LAHORE: A man on Friday hurled a show at the senior politician Shiekh Rashid Ahmed as he arrived in the provincial capital to attend the final of Pakistan Super League, TV footage showed.
The chief of Pakistan Awami league and a staunch opponent of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was accorded warm welcome by Railway authorities at the station where he was hit by shoe.
According to Geo TV, the shoe was thrown by an elderly man identified as Faqeer Muhammad who said he hit the politician over “political rivalry”.
The man was taken into custody by local police. There was no immediate response from Sheikh Rashid but the senior politician retweeted a string of messages condemning the shoe hurling.
While talking to media moments before the incident, he said he arrived in Lahore to witness the match against the wishes of his political ally Imran Khan and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari.
He also thanked Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for the welcome he was accorded on his arrival.
