‘Once-bitten’ Fazl skeptical of legislation against horse-trading

ISLAMABAD: Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday said that his party was not prepared for yet another Constitutional amendment after being ‘bitten’ once.
Speaking to media representatives here, he said that suspecting lawmakers of wrongdoing before the upcoming Senate elections was not politically or ethically right.
Maulana Fazl was speaking to the media after meeting with Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, who on the occasion said that the JUI-F chief’s reservations would be conveyed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He said Fazl’s reservations regarding action against Islamic madrassahs in the backdrop of National Action Plan (NAP) would also be conveyed to the prime minister.
After initially showing support for military offensives against extremist elements in the country in the aftermath of deadly Army Public School attack in Peshawar, the JUI-F chief had threatened to launch an anti-government protest movement to avoid likely action against religious seminaries.
