MUMBAI: Saif Ali Khan thought about changing his son's name after the backlash and fury it incited among Indian masses.

Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi never sat well with the Indian masses, who instantly connected it to the conqueror Timur Lang who sacked Delhi. In a recent interview, the Rangoon actor revealed he had thought about changing the name and had even drafted an apology letter but later changed his mind.

"I thought for a second about changing his name. For a couple of weeks. And Kareena was a little against it and she said, 'People respect you for your opinion and you can't'... So I said, yeah, but it's not about people. I don't want him to get unpopular," he said. "Someone in my PR agreed with me, and we drafted a small letter. And when I read it, it was so pathetic, that I cancelled the idea. Because it was really like, uhh, 'I'm sorry', and 'I didn't want to offend' and 'I'm an idiot'" he said.

Talking about Donald Trump, Saif Ali Khan said thathe felt the United States was angry when it elected Trump and now, the nation regrets it.

American President Donald Trump has always been at odds with Muslims. The billionaire tycoon did not mince his words when he was running against Hillary Clinton to become the most powerful man in the world. Once elected, Trump's Muslim travel ban has triggered protests around the world against him. Saif Ali Khan, one of Bollywood's most prolific Muslim actors, recently shed light on why he thought USA elected a man such as Trump in the first place.

"As a Muslim, I don't know... I think they just wanted a change. I don't think we can think of America as just New York and LA, I think there are all those people who don't have jobs, Middle America... And he's promised them that we'll make it happen again, our country and all this kind of stuff..." he said.

Saif cited the example of the Pope who had united all the Knights against the Muslims and led to the bloody Crusades, stating that it seemed a ploy to unite people against an outside enemy.

Ever since Donald Trump has taken office, protests in the United States and other countries in the world have erupted, asking the hard-headed American President to allow immigrants from the seven predominantly Muslim countries he had included in his 'Muslim ban'.

Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in Rangoon with Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut.
