KARACHI: Geo News learnt that MQM-London had set up several 'silent units' of its workers in Karachi, after MQM-Pakistan under the leadership of Dr Farooq Sattar, had distanced itself from the London wing of the party, following Altaf Hussain's speech on August 22.
Sources disclosed that these units were established in Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Nazimabad and Mehmoodabad.
A government institute has listed 210 active members of MQM-London in the port city and has also advised relevant authorities to take action, it was further revealed.
On August 23, MQM Pakistan had distanced itself from controversial anti-Pakistan statements made by the party leadership in London, with Deputy Convener Farooq Sattar taking control of the party leadership a day after the controversy. Dr Farooq Sattar had announced that MQM-London would now no longer have a say in the affairs and decisions of the party.
On October 23, MQM Pakistan leadership Saturday expelled 11 members from the party fold, advising workers to not keep any contact with them.
The MQM Pakistan Rabita Committee revoked the membership of 11 affiliates for violating party discipline and expelled them from the party. On Sunday, MQM-Pakistan suspended the basic membership of senior leader Syed Ali Raza Abidi, stating that he had failed to act on the party's policies after the Aug. 23 incident.
