LAHORE: Authorities on Monday released a man from prison who spent 21 years on death row after thee Supreme Court of Pakistan acquitted him after it found that evidence against the accused was inadequate.
Mazhar Farooq was released from a jail in Punjab’s Sheikhupura city where his friends and family received him. According to Geo News, Farooq finished his bachelor and masters degrees in prison.
He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death by a session court. The punishment handed down by the lower court was upheld by the High Court.
The apex court overturned the ruling and ordered the authorities to release Mazhar after he filed an appeal.
