KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies arrested Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain in a pre-dawn raid on Sunday, sources said.
The prominent Shia scholar was taken into custody from Nazimabad area of the metropolis. The sources said the cleric has been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
Charges against Mirza Yousuf Hussain were not immediately known.
The arrest comes hours after police arrested Faisal Raza Abidi, former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator, from his house in New Rizvia Society on Saturday.
Abidi was arrested in connection with the killings of two persons in Patel Para area a day earlier.
The murders happened on Friday as armed pillion riders shot two men dead near the Fatima Bai Hospital and fled. A spokesman of the outlawed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) had yesterday claimed that the two victims were their supporters, however, the area SHO said the slain hailed from Khuzdar and were associated with the Tableeghi Jamaat.
