RAWALPINDI: A clash between anti-government protesters and police officials claimed the life of a three-day old infant, on Friday.
According to the district administration of Rawalpindi and MS Benazir Bhutto Hospital, the infant did not die due to suffocation caused by tear gas shelling. Both sources claimed that the child was suffering from breathing problems since morning and was brought in to the hospital at 06:00 pm.
The hospital denied reports that the three-year old infant died due to suffocation caused by tear gas shelling. The district administration also claimed that the infant was a resident of the city's Garden College area which was not affected by tear gas shelling. The district administration claimed that the death of the child was deliberately being linked to the tear gas shelling, which was not the correct version of how events took place.
On the other hand, the father of the deceased infant claimed that his child had died as a result of tear gas shelling. He stated that all routes leading to the hospital had been sealed hence he had been delayed in reaching the hospital by one-and-a-half hour.
Hospital sources claimed that the child's post-mortem had not been conducted and that at the time he was brought in, the infant had already expired.
