PM Nawaz chairs meeting in Quetta after terrorist attack

QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif onTuesday chaired a meeting at the Governor House to discuss the situation following the terrorist attack at a police training centre last night that killed over 60 recruits.

The meeting was attended by Balochistan s Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri , Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Nasser Janjua, Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Ahmad Bugti, DG ISI Lt. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar, Commander Southern Command Lt. Gen. Amir Riaz, DG MI Maj General Zaki Manj and DGMO Maj General Sahir Shamshad.

The Prime Minister was briefed over militant attack. Earlier, the prime minister and army chief attended the funeral prayers of those killed in the attack.

At least 61 police recruits were killed and over 100 injured in an audacious attack by the militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami at the Police Training College on Sariab road.

The attack began at around 11:10 pm Monday, with gunfire continuing to ring out at the site for several hours. Security forces were able to clear the area after five hours and the entry, exit routes were opened for traffic in the morning.

An emergency was imposed across hospitals in Quetta. The injured cadets were admitted into Quetta Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical Complex for medical treatment.
