PM says he will follow SC orders on Panama Leaks wholeheartedly

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has stated that he would wholeheartedly follow the Supreme Court orders on the issue Panama Leaks.

The Premier said that although the apex court has sent him the notice, it does not mean he has been summoned.

He informed his close confidants that an official response on the Panama Papers case would be filed soon.

According to the sources privy to developments, in an informal meeting with local party leaders and confidants, PM Nawaz reiterated his formal position on the issue saying that there is a malicious intent behind the campaign against him on Panama Papers as his name has not appeared in the leaks.

Prime Minister Nawaz said that sit-ins have been detrimental for the country’s economy.

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members in the petitions seeking his disqualification and probe into the Panama Leaks.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by CJ Jamali and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the petitions, filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and Tariq Asad, advocate, seeking a probe into the Panama Leaks as well as disqualification of Nawaz Sharif for allegedly lying on the floor of the house.

The court, after issuing notices to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Mariam Nawaz, sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, along with Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), sought their replies within two weeks.
