India imposed restriction to halt march toward UN office in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: India imposed restrictions in Srinagar city of held Kashmir on Friday morning to prevent a massive march towards the UN observer’s office at Sonawar.

According the media reports, District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Lone said: "Restrictions will remain in force here to maintain law and order today (Friday)."

Kashmiris will conduct a massive march towards the UN office at Sonawar in occupied Srinagar to submit a memorandum regarding India’s recent attempts of creating war hysteria along the Line of Control.

Call for the march has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership.

It is also aimed at asking the UN to impress upon India to shun violence and resolve Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations by implementing the relevant resolutions of the World Body.

The Hurriyat leadership has also extended till Thursday the ongoing shutdown against the civilian killings in the held Valley.

The valley had remained paralyzed for the last 91 days because of the Hurriyat leadership called protest shutdowns and rallies issued through weekly calendars.

Indian authorities have responded by imposing curfew and restrictions.

All educational institutions, public transport and businesses have remained closed during the ongoing unrest that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces.

Around 90 people died and over 12,000 injured in the ongoing unrest.
