Police seize NATO weapons from house in Karachi

KARACHI: Police recovered a huge cache of weapons from the city on Wednesday, in what is being termed as the largest weapons bust in Karachi's history. 

Police claimed that by discovering the weapons, they had foiled a major terrorist activity in Karachi during the month of Muharram. It was further revealed by the police that the weapons were located after a tip-off from a criminal in custody. 

"We will carry out forensic test of the weapons to find out if the weapons were used in any criminal activities before. We are still investigating to ascertain who last lived in the house or rented it," said Karachi police chief Mushtaq Maher at a press conference. 

Meher said that some elements residing in London were colluding with the South African and RAW group to kill people and conduct a terrorist activity on 9th and 10th Muharram. 

"Some elements residing in London in collaboration with RAW and South Africa group is involved. They were plotting to carry out a major terror attack on 9th or 10th Muharram," he said.

The weapons recovered include Nato weapons, bullet-proof jackets, anti-tank mines, anti-aircraft guns, bazookas, grenades, LMGs, SMGs, rifles and AK-47 assault rifles along with a large quantity of explosives.

The house from where the weapons were seized had been locked for a long period. A water bill concerning the house, which was dated two years ago, was also found by police. DG Rangers General Bilal Akbar praised efforts of the police and said that they had foiled a major terrorist activity in Karachi. 

No arrests were made during the raid.
