ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court expressed anger on National Action Bureau (NAB) plea bargain clause and questioned whether law permits that a corrupt officer pays back and gets clean chit.

During the case hearing on Wednesday, against Section 25-A of NAB Ordinance, Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that should we let a thief commits crime, pays back some of it and gets free, if we extend this law all prisons would be emptied.

The CJ expressed displeasure over Attorney General’s absence. He observed that he remains out of country most of the times, important constitutional cases would not proceed in his absence.

Justice Amir Hani asked that is it justified to reappoint a corrupt officer after he compensates the amount.

Additional AG Rana Qadir informed the court that attorney general is in Washington pertaining to the Pak-India water issue, however parliamentary committee is reviewing the NAB ordinance.
