ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honrdoost on Tuesday lamented what he said negative propaganda that was carried out against his country by Pakistani media during President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Islamabad earlier this year.
“A large number of anti-Iran articles were published in Pakistani newspapers,” he said while talking to media.
He said Tehran shares a long border with Pakistan and last week Iranian forces captured “terrorists who were trying to enter from Pakistani side”, without elaborating on identities of the suspects. “Neither we complained, nor our media made a fuss about it”.
The ambassador said Iran did not blame Pakistan since both the countries were “old friends”. The ambassador said that Iran stood up against world powers for decades and also paid the price for standing up.
Hassan Rouhani visited Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif March this year. That was his first visit to Pakistan as the President of Iran. He was accompanied by a high level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials and businessmen during the tour.
