KARACHI: Ill-fated Awam Express passenger train travelling from Peshawar to Karachi, that had an accident on its route near Multan, finally reached its destination.
The fatal accident occurred on night between Wednesday and Thursday near Multan at 2:00am when the Awam Express rammed into stationary freight train which was stopped after running over a man crossing the railway track at Mall Bardar Road near Multan.
At least, six persons were killed while over 150 others were injured in the accident.
The train reached Karachi Cantt station at around 5:00 a.m in the morning where relatives warmly welcomed their loved ones and expressed joy over their safe return.
The passengers narrating their ordeal said, the incident took place due to driver’s negligence. Even though he spotted red signal and goods train but did not applied the brakes.
A committee has been formed to investigate the incident. Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has directed authorities concerned to submit an inquiry report within three days.
