ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesdays said terrorism was the biggest enemy of Pakistan, accusing India and elements at the western frontiers of fueling the menace which has devoured thousands of lives including civilians and officials of the armed forces.

“There was a single enemy in 65, today we are confronted with foes at several fronts. some enemies are across the border while others are internal, but the biggest enemy is terrorism inside the country,” Asif said while speaking at Geo News talk show Capital Talk to be aired on Tuesday (today) as the country marks Defence Day.

The whole nation is commemorating the national Defence Day to honour and commemorate the sacrifices Pakistan Army's soldiers, who gave their lives for the defence of the motherland.

On 6th September 1965, Pakistan Army successfully defended an Indian army onslaught and was able to secure its borders after more than a couple days' intense war. The day commenced with special prayers for the country's security, progress and development. In various cities of Pakistan, small and large events celebrating the event of 1965 were held.

India's unprovoked act of aggression was met with a befitting response by Pakistan Army. Indian army violated Pakistan's borders and attacked first at midnight on September 6, 1965 at Bambanwala Ravi Bediyan (BRB) Canal. A small contingent of the Pakistani armed forces, which included the valiant Major Aziz Bhatti, were able to hold back the enemy, despite being small in number.
