KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presided over his first meeting of the provincial apex committee since taking over as Chief Minister of Sindh, on Wednesday. DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar and IG Sindh briefed members of the committee on the progress made with regard to the law and order situation of Karachi ever since the launch of the operation in 2013.
According to details, the topics that came under discussion were related to the security situation of the province, National Action Plan, targeted operations and the circumstances that evolved after the August 22 incident.
Among those in attendance were Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, provincial ministers Nisar Khoro, Maula Bakhsh Chandio, Corps Commander Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, IG Sindh, Chief Secretary, Interior Ministry Secretary, Advocate General and Prosecutor General.
IG Sindh and DG Rangers briefed the members of the apex committee on the overall law and order situation of the province, ever since the Karachi operation was launched in September 2013. Major General Bilal Akbar apprised the members of the committee that 5,863 target killings' confessions have been obtained as a result of the arrest of 654 target killers belonging to the MQM.
He further stated that 848 target killers had been arrested and had confessed to being involved in 7,224 crimes. 94 target killers connected to the Lyari gang-war have been arrested and they have confessed to committing 804 murders, according to DG Rangers. Major General Bilal Akbar briefed the members of the apex committee that 99 target killers had been arrested, who had confessed to committing 804 murders.
The Chief Secretary of Sindh also briefed the members of the committee on the implementation of the National Action Plan.
