CM Murad meets Khawaja Asif, discusses electricity issues in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali held a meeting with federal Minister for Water & Power Khwaja Asif at his Secretariat and discussed outstanding issues between provincial government and Ministry of Water & Power.

Latter, talking to media chief minister Murad Ali Shah thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for listening to him during his last visit to federal capital and asked Khwaja Asif to resolve all the pending issue of the Sindh government. "This was the meeting held in follow up of my meeting with prime minister," he said.

He said that he took up the issue of prolonged load-shedding in rural areas of the province. "This has not only affected day-to-day life in rural areas but has swindled business activities there," he said and added that the federal Minister has assured him that he would personally look into it to reduce the load shedding hours.

Replying to a question Syed Murad Ali Shah said "We are very close to settle the issue of power bills, there is a very little difference between the claim of the Ministry of Water & Power and of amount offered by Sindh government," he said and added reconciliation of the amount has almost been reached. The federal Minister, Khwaja Asif also endorsed the chief minister's statement.

Replying to another question, Syed Murad Shah said that Sindh government has established its Sindh Transmission & Dispatch Company (STDC). He added that there was issue to allow STDC for grid connectivity for which Federal Minister Khwaja Asif has assured to settle the issue.

He said that he had given guarantee to the prime minister that Sindh would add 1000 to 1500 MW in the national grid if the issues of tariff of renewable energy projects are decides. "This is quite encouraging that Khwaja Asif has also extended his support and cooperation for the purpose.

Syed Murad Shah said that federal Minister Khwaja Asif has deputed Water & Power Secretary Younis Dhaga to hold a meeting with provincial secretary Energy Agha Wasif to settle all the issues he had raised with him. "This is very encouraging that the meeting would be held today," he said.

He said a good working relationship has developed between federal and provincial governments and "I am sure fruits of this relationship particularly in energy sector would be enjoyed by the people of Pakistan," he hoped.
