Pakistan playing vital role in promoting regional peace: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan was playing an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability. 

Addressing the SAARC conference for finance ministers, the Pakistani Premier welcomed all finance ministers from the member countries. He said that SAARC had pledged to improve the standard of living of the masses and also contribute towards regional progress. 

"Three decades ago, the SAARC leadership had made a pledge. SAARC countries are doing their best to bring about economic and political stability in the region," he said. SAARC is also working to improve the economic situation of the region for the past thirty years," he added. 

Nawaz said that Pakistan had played an important role in maintaining peace in the region. He also said that Pakistan was trying its best to maintain political stability in South Asia and that SAARC provided the platform to establish peace. 

"Owing to positive policies in the economic sector, Pakistan is headed in the right direction," he said. 

Nawaz Sharif said that there were countless natural resources in South Asia and said that to enhance cooperation in the region, Pakistan was ready to play its part. The Pakistani Prime Minister announced that in order to promote regional progress, contact should be established between member countries via rail, road and air. 

He also announced that the 19th SAARC Summit, in which Heads of State of members countries will meet, would take place on November 9 and 10, 2016.
