JIWANI: At least six Levies personnel embraced martyrdom and three others were injured in rocket attack on security forces convoy here on Thursday.
According to details, militants attacked two vehicles of security personnel with rockets near Gurdan area in Jiwani Town district Gwadar of Balochistan.
A senior administration official said five Levies men were killed on the spot in the attack while four others including Risaldar Major Abdullah and Tehsildar Jewani Naeem were injured.
He said that Naeem also succumbed to injuries at the hospital whereas three injured were shifted to Karachi.
No group immediately claimed responsibility but Balochistan is plagued by roiling insurgencies and hit by regular militant attacks.
Division Commissioner Bashir Bangalzai also confirmed the attack saying that six Levies men were killed and three others were wounded.
The assailants managed to escape from the scene after the attack. The security forces cordoned off the area after the attack and launched search operation.
Taking notice of the incident Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri asked the Commissioner to submit report. He also expressed profound grief over the martyrdom of Levies personnel in Jiwani. (INP)
