JHELUM: PTI chief Imran Khan was issued a show cause notice on Wednesday by the District Returning Officer Jhelum for violating the election code of conduct.
The District Returning Officer Jhelum issues a show cause notice to the PTI chairman in which it was stated that by holding election campaigns and rallies in NA-63 Jhelum, Imran Khan had violated the election code of conduct. The PTI chairman was also asked in the notice to appear before the District Returning Officer's office in Jhelum on August 27 at 11 am to show cause for his actions.
The PTI chief was asked to appear in person or in the presence of his attorney. It was also stated that if the PTI chairman was unable to offer an explanation regarding his violation, then the case would be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
According to the code of conduct of the Election Commission, prime minister, chief minister, federal ministers, state ministers, advisors to the president and prime minister, provincial ministers, advisers to the chief minister, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies cannot hold public rallies in a place where the election schedule has been announced already.
PTI's Naeem-ul-Haque termed the notice as 'funny'. PTI is fielding its candidate Chaudhry Fawad Hussain from Jhelum for the by-election. Fawad Chaudhry used to be affiliated with former army chief Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League but later joined the PPP. A couple of months ago, he joined Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party.
