Nisar says formal reference against Altaf being sent to Britain

KARACHI: A formal reference against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain will be sent to the British government over hate speech and inciting violence, said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Talking to journalists at Governor House, Nisar said, “Karachi can’t be held hostage over phone call of one person.”

He went on to say, “We all are on the same page pertaining to law and order in the port city.”

Nisar also directed the authorities concerned to ensure security of media houses.

Earlier, Nisar held meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan. Both the leaders agreed that stern action would be taken against those talking against Pakistan.

Sindh Governor asserted that peace in Karachi would be maintained at any cost.

Nisar Ali Khan also held meeting with CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah and discussed law and order.

Later on, Nisar Ali Khan held a press conference at the Governor House.

Nisar said that it will be clear soon how many MQM will there be.

“MQM will remain one or become two or three, we will come to know soon,” he said referring to Farooq Sattar’s recent takeover of the party leadership.

He said that the attack on media houses was condemnable, adding that the people of Karachi did a great job by not allowing certain elements to hold the city hostage for the first time in 25 years.

During the press conference, he lauded the role of media during Karachi’s recent riots and said that Pakistan media despite being attacked conveyed the real message to the world.

The federal minister said that certain hidden elements don’t want normal situation to prevail in Karachi.

The federal interior minister, during his speech, also critcised the MQM chief.

The minister said that Urdu-speaking people are a patriotic faction of the country.
