First meeting of NAP implementation committee to be held today

ISLAMABAD: The first meeting of the National Action Plan implementation committee will be held today on Monday to review progress on the plan. 

The National Action Plan implementation committee meeting will be presided by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security, Nasser Khan Janjua. The meeting will focus on issues pertaining to terrorism such as the performance of special courts, hanging of terrorists, activities of NACTA and whether or not economic sanctions have been placed on terrorist groups. 

Sources disclosed that the meeting will also focus on whether militant groups who resurfaced have been dealt with and the issue of registration of madrassas. FATA reforms and the formation of the anti-terrorism force is also expected to come under discussion during the high-level meeting. The committee will also take stock of the situation concerning Afghan immigrants' issue, militancy in Punjab, sectarian terrorism and Karachi operation. 

During the meeting, the ministry of interior, ministry of information technology, ministry of finance, ministry of religious affairs, ministry of law, FATA secretariat, PTA, ministry of information and broadcasting as well as provincial governments will provide detailed briefings. During the meeting, military intelligence institutions, FIA, PEMRA and FATA secretariat officials will also apprise the committee regarding their performances so far.

Briefings will also be conducted on issues such as banning the use of internet for terrorist groups, news pertaining to militants in the media and the criminal justice system.
