Noah Wyle fights back tears as he accepts best actor trophy at Emmys

Noah Wyle added another feather to his cap on Monday as he won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy at the 78th annual Emmy Awards.

The 55-year-old actor, who won an award for his performance in the medical drama The Pitt, became emotional while accepting the award.

“This is overwhelming,” Noah told the crowd. “I have to acknowledge the work of my fellow nominees. Your work is inspirational. I watch you, I learn from you."

"In particular, Mr. [Gary] Oldman: I have to tell you, I don’t know if there’s an actor my age [who didn’t] look at Sid and Nancy and think, ‘That’s the benchmark that I want to hit one day in my career,’ he continued. 

“I grew up in L.A. I’m a Hollywood kid,” Noah added. “I was raised on a television and movie theaters were my place of worship."

Concluding his emotional speech, the Donnie Darko star said, "This is all I’ve ever wanted to do and this is the only club I’ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me.”

Noah took home the best actor award by beating out Sterling K. Brown, Mark Ruffalo, Rufus Sewell, and Gary Oldman.
