Solar power surpasses wind globally: Here’s what changed
Solar power surpasses wind globally for the first time
Solar power has reportedly overtaken wind energy globally for the first time, highlighting a notable transformation in the world’s renewable energy landscape.
According to global charts, solar networks overtook winds fueled by rapid deployment and sharp price declines that allowed it to capture most of the rising electricity demand.
In Texas today, solar already powers 33.5 percent of the grid wind’s 24.9 percent with the projection to expand by midday. In this connection, companies like Tesla shift the focus with Elon Musk calling the sun a free fusion reactor positioned to fulfill almost all global energy demands through solar plus storage.
On social platform X, users have been responding with one writing, “Even at only 8:51 am this morning Texas grid generates more solar than wind, at noon it'll be like 5x more, wild stuff.”
Second added, “ Wind turbines aren't lasting as long as advertised and are a ballache to fix/swap out. Solar tech keeps advancing and is far less hassle to set up and fix, plus far more feasible to place on unproductive land (i.e. arid deadlands). Domestic rollout is still largely untapped.”
Solar has entered an entirely different growth regime and has now surpassed wind in annual generation. Nonetheless, other renewable technologies continue to contribute albeit on a much smaller scale; biofuels however are mature in some markets and growing rapidly in others.
