Ryan Reynolds jokes about one long celebration in his family

Ryan Reynolds says his family has entered its busiest time of year, with birthdays coming one after another from August through the fall.

The actor, who turns 50 on October 23, spoke about his family’s packed birthday season while attending the August 31 premiere of his new movie Mayday.

Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, 39, have four children, and several family birthdays fall within just a few months.

“I’m in birthday alley,” Reynolds told People when asked how the couple celebrated Lively’s birthday on August 25.

Lively’s birthday starts a 113-day stretch that includes the birthdays of three of their children and Reynolds’ own birthday as the couple’s daughter Inez turns 10 in September, while Betty turns 7 in October. 

Their oldest daughter, James, turns 12 in December. Their youngest child, Olin, will turn 4 in winter 2027.

“My kids, we have about four of our family members all just back to back to back to back,” he said.

Reynolds joked that the celebrations continue all the way to Christmas. “I’m mostly breathing in helium all day, filling balloons, emptying balloons, filling more balloons,” he said. “That is birthday alley.”

Reynolds and Lively also celebrate their wedding anniversary on September 9. They will mark 14 years of marriage this year.

“Yes, but again, birthday alley,” Reynolds joked. “The whole thing turns into one giant mosh pit celebration of balloons and confetti. All the way through Christmas.”

With so many celebrations, Reynolds said he does not need a big party for his own birthday. “I don’t like birthdays,” he said. “I get enough attention. I was just on a red carpet. This is plenty.”

Reynolds is currently promoting Mayday, which begins streaming on Apple TV on September 4.
