Germany calls for urgent action as the humanoid robot race intensifies: Here’s why
Unitree becomes the first humanoid-robot maker listed in mainland China
On Wednesday, Germany’s VDMA engineering association announced that humanoid robotics should take center stage at the top of the political agenda, urging Germany and Europe to step forward and create secure domestic supply chains for sourcing critical parts.
According to current reports, Unitree shares traded at 845 yuan on the tech-heavy Star Market index of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, soaring 460% above the initial public offering price of 150.80 yuan.
The stock value initially reached 1,100 yuan during the day’s session before shedding early gains though it still finished with significant gains.
Crucially, a renowned Chinese humanoid robot maker surged in its Shanghai trading debut. This is one of the landmark moments for the country’s robotics sector which has become a combat zone in the Sino-US tech war.
Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Executive Director at the VDMA said: “Germany and Europe must establish a comprehensive value chain featuring domestic production of critical components.”
Nonetheless, the VDMA maintained that a global power struggle has begun and the subject of humanoid robotics and physical AI must be placed at the top of the political agenda.
It is pertinent to mention here that the company’s revenue reached 1.15 billion yuan in the first half of 2026, up by 48.5% on a yearly basis.
