Henry Cavill-starrer heist thriller skips UK cinemas, heads straight to streaming
When and where you can watch Guy Richie's new heist movie 'In The Grey'
The heist thriller In the Grey, starring Henry Cavill, finally has a UK release date.
The movie is directed by Guy Ritchie and also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. It follows a team of skilled operatives who are sent to steal back a billion-dollar fortune from a dangerous ruler. What starts as a difficult heist quickly turns into a dangerous fight full of tricky plans and betrayal.
The film came out in US theaters on May 15, 2026, but it did not get a cinema release in the UK. Instead, it will go straight to streaming. UK viewers will be able to watch it on Prime Video starting September 9.
So far, the movie has received mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds a 50% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 64 reviews.
Some reviewers praised the film's style, saying it feels smooth and entertaining, especially for fans of Ritchie's usual movies.
The AU Review said of the film: "It may not sit alongside [Guy Ritchie'] very best work, but it serves as a stylish reminder that when he stays in his lane [...] few filmmakers make crime capers feel this effortlessly cool."
Others were less impressed, saying the jokes fell flat and the characters felt plain.
"In The Grey is, well, in the gray. The leads have some so-so jokes they don’t do much with, and their characters are bland. You long for Hugh Grant to burst in and impart some personality," penned The New York Post.
Some critics also noted that the movie moves quickly, possibly due to heavy editing, which led to noticeable plot holes and rough transitions between scenes.
In the Grey will be available to stream on Prime Video starting September 9.
