Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he plans to start working on his third studio album once his summer performances come to an end.

Lewis released his second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, in 2023 before taking a break to focus on his health. During that time, he dealt with challenges related to Tourette’s syndrome and anxiety.

Now, in a recent update during his headline performance at TRNSMT Festival 2026 in Glasgow, the Scottish singer, 29, has spoken openly about the mental health struggles that led him to step away from the spotlight.

Addressing the crowd, the singer admitted he went through an extremely difficult period. “I had a complete and utter mental f****** breakdown," he began.

“Thank you for cheering my mental breakdown. Was not a good couple of years I had, but I’m back and I’m feeling better, I feel good. I’m firing on all cylinders, it’s nice to be here. My mental health took a beating so it’s f****** nice to be here and back with you all.”

Lewis made his comeback in 2025 with the EP Survive, which featured songs including Something in the Heavens, Almost, and The Day That I Die

Looking ahead, he told fans that after finishing his summer shows, he plans to step away for a while and focus on making a new album. “After this summer, I’m gonna go away for a bit and make an album,” he announced.

The singer also explained that he wants to take a different approach to music this time. Rather than chasing chart success, he wants to spend more time creating songs that genuinely mean something to him.

Lewis said fellow musicians Sam Fender and Grian Chatten have inspired him to think more carefully about his music and treat it as an art form.

He admitted that while making his second album, he became too focused on trying to create hit songs and rushed parts of the process.

Lewis wants to be more involved in every stage of production, work with different collaborators and avoid compromising on quality.
