Focus Features hits jackpost with 'Obsession': Here's why
'Obsession' becomes top Focus Features movie

Focus Features, an independent film production company, found a gold mine with the new horror-romance Obsession.

With a global haul of $224.7 million, the 2026 movie has become the production house's highest-grossing movie.

In its speedy takeover, Obsession has left behind previous hit films such as Downton Abbey, earning $194.6 million worldwide in 2019.

However, what is noteworthy is the movie's budget, which is a minuscule $750,000 compared to the business it generated.

Curry Barker, a young filmmaker, directed the horror flick.

He built his career on YouTube by producing horror content.

According to Deadline, the success factors of Obsession are several.

At first, a dedicated fanbase, festival screenings, slick marketing, and, most importantly, attracting a young audience to theaters.

This buzz for the movie has translated into jaw-dropping box office figures.

For example, Obsession raked in $25.6 million domestically in its fourth weekend, registering a drop of only 7%.

By this performance, the film beat The Blair Witch Project for the biggest fourth weekend.
