Meta aims to sell 10 million wearable devices in the second half of 2026
Meta Platforms is reportedly planning to test an AI pendant next year, marking a significant expansion of its hardware ecosystem.
The primary goal behind this roadmap is to popularize its AI assistants and reverse financial losses in its hardware division, according to reports released on Friday.
An internal memo by Alex Himel reveals that the Facebook and Instagram owner are reportedly seeking to substantially expand its selection of AI glasses and add a business-focused service called “Wearables for Work”.
This comes after Meta’s hardware unit Reality Labs reported a loss of $4.03 billion in the first quarter on revenue of just $402 million.
The reports further indicate that the company aims to sell 10 million wearable devices in the second half of 2026, by marketing existing products and launching newly designed products to enhance volume.
For those unversed, the tech giant secured collaborations with EssilorLuxottica brands Ray-Ban and Oakley to create AI-powered smart glasses.
The core motive of Meta acquiring AI-wearables startup Limitless is to record and transcribe real-world conversations to accelerate growth of AI-generated wearables.
The company has taken a significant step away from expensive headsets towards AI-driven accessories in an attempt to use this technology both personally and professionally.
