Erin Doherty played Princess Anne in 'The Crown'
Erin Doherty has found a smart way to get her coffee served quicker.
Erin revealed that she uses her "posh" accent that she used to portray Princess Anne in The Crown.
The actress, who is from Crawley, West Sussex, has noticed that the accent carries authority.
"I remember ordering coffees in a Princess Anne voice, and it was massively different, which was interesting," she told The Observer magazine.
"Without being stereotypical, it got me my way quicker. My coffee was in my hand. There's an authority to voices like that. And whether we like it or not, you respond differently," she added.
The Adolescence star also shared that people often expect her to speak in her Princess Anne accent and look shocked when she speaks in her real accent.
"You could see it in their faces. Not in a mean way, but you're like, you're just hearing my voice right now, and having a bit of an out-of-body experience," she said.
Her portrayal of Anne was critically acclaimed, leading to many more offers of similar upper-class roles.
"A lot of upper-class characters came my way after playing Anne, and I said no because I didn't want to be stuck doing that," she told the Sunday Times in 2022.
Erin Doherty got critical acclaima and praise more recently for her performance as therapist Briony in Adolescence. She wont he Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
