Soccer star Son Heung-min finally felt relieved after a woman has been jailed for 4 years for blackmailing him with false claims.
The news caught everyone's attention when tables turned on the woman who claimed that she was expecting a baby with the footballer and was finally sentenced to jail.
The decision was announced by a South Korean court on Monday, December 8, 2025, that a woman named Yang was charged with extorting 300 million won ($204,000) from Son in 2024 after sending him an ultrasound photo of a baby that she claimed was his and demanding money to stay silent.
As informed by the Seoul Central District Court, she later conspired with a man, identified as Yong, to try to extort more money from Son, reports BBC.
The woman named Yang, in her 20s, and her accomplice Yong, a man in his 40s, were found guilty of blackmailing the former Tottenham captain by saying she was pregnant with his child, reports Yonhap news agency.
The court informed on Monday that Yang lied to Son, although she hadn’t confirmed whose child she was carrying.
The woman had approached Son last year, and her accomplice had threatened Son 15 times to get the money.
The culprit, Yang, denied the charges of extortion and attempted extortion, while Yong, who confessed to the offense, was sentenced to two years in prison.
As reported by AFP, the woman spent the money on luxury and designer goods, and when they demanded more money from the soccer player this year, Son acted promptly and went to the police.
The judge said the woman and her accomplice had abused the celebrity for their crime and that Son appeared to have gone through "intense mental torture" after the case was reported in the media.
Son was named in October the second-highest-paid footballer in Major League Soccer MLS North America's top-tier football league akin to England's Premier League.
The 33-year-old Son is among Asia’s greatest players who joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and later the South Korean star joined Los Angeles Football Club LAFC in August 2025.
Son Heung-min became the first Asian to win the Premier League's Golden Boot award, presented annually to the leading goal scorer in the 2022 league.
