Ed Sheeran defends songs about wife amid rumors of marital strife
Ed Sheeran exchanged vows with Cherry Seaborn in 2019
Ed Sheeran has defended his decision to write brutally honest songs about his relationship with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.
The 34-year-old singer, who headlined the first night of Capital's Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at The O2 last weekend, said he wanted to share both the good and the bad parts of his life.
At a Spotify pop-up ahead of the ball, the Perfect hitmaker said, "Sometimes people listen to records today and assume that what that song is, is their world 100 per cent at the time."
"It's very much like heightened emotions. You never write a song on a 'meh' day. You always write songs like, 'This is the most loving I've ever felt, this is the happiest I've ever felt, this is the angriest I've ever felt,'" continued Ed, as per The Sun.
The Grammy winner added, "They're all like big extremities and that's what inspires the song. And then that's where the song exists and that's why people connect to the song as people have these big feelings."
"I think the only time the songs will ever be created, for me at least, are in those moments of big extremes," justified Ed.
For those unversed, Ed exchanged vows with Cherry in 2019, and the couple shares two daughters - Lyra and Jupiter.
